EDITORIAL GUIDELINES

Manuscripts may be submitted in Italian, English, French and Spanish.
We accept the following types of submission:
1) Research reports (from 3,000 to 5,000 words long)
2) Articles, which must not be longer than 10,000 words including the references cited, notes and captions, if any.
3) Reviews, which must be written original-language texts only (not translated editions). Reviews are free to offer a critical comparison of multiple texts, as long as they respect a length limit of 2,000 words.
Any images and graphic elements should be numbered and sent as separate files identified by their numbers.
The manuscript should be submitted electronically, in a .doc or .docx format, to the address antropologiapubblicaredazione@gmail.com.
Submitted manuscripts will be sent for review to two anonymous referees and the final version of the text published only after having been approved by the referees as well as the journal’s editorial board.

Title and section headings
Please use Times New Roman font, size 12, single-spaced.
The title of the text should be centered, in bold (Times New Roman 12, spacing: before 0, after 6).
The second line should provide the name (first and last) of the author, written out in full in italics, centered, with a superscript number (callout) to a footnote containing institutional affiliations, if any, and the author’s email address (Times New Roman 12, spacing: before 0, after 30).
The text should be introduced by an abstract, maximum 250 words long, in English (Times New Roman 12, spacing: before 0, after 6).
The headings of sections within the text should be centered and in bold, including the References Cited (Times New Roman 12, spacing: before 10, after 10).
Please note: parenthetical statements should be set off with EM dashes ( – ), not EN dashes ( - ).

Citations
Brief direct quotations (up to three lines) should be included in the body of the text, set off by angle quotes («…»).
Longer quotations (more than three lines long) should be separated from the body of the text (Times New Roman, body font size 10, spacing: before 10, after 10).
The source should be identified at the end of the quotation, within the quotes and before the period (Riccio 2014: 19). If there are more than two authors, please use the form (Rylko-Bauer et al. 2006: 183).
The same guideline applies to interview transcriptions and other sources: please include more detailed information about the time frame and setting of the research in a footnote.
Please reserve the use of angle quotes («…») for direct citations (followed by the specific source and page number); to refer to specific concepts, please instead use high double quotation marks (e.g. what Piasere defines as “perduzione”) followed by a reference to the text as a whole (without page number). The same goes for underlining the “so-called” character of a concept (e.g. so-called “participant observation”).
Any sensitive data must follow the ethical code outlined by the SIAA.

Notes
Each note should be numbered sequentially and appear in footnote format (rather than endnotes). All footnotes should be marked with a superscript number (callout), which should be positioned before any punctuation marks and always in regular text (not bold or italics).

Italics
Please only use italics for the titles of books/plays/artwork and for foreign language words and phrases (italics should not be used for the names of institutions or for expressions and terms that have become widespread and commonplace).

Capitalization
In the case of geographical names made up of two or more elements, the first word should be capitalized as well (e.g. Lago Verbano, the Gulf of Mexico, the Mediterranean Sea).
Geographical indicators and place names should be written in lowercase (the northern region, street, square); the same is true for cardinal directions when written out, although when they are abbreviated using only the first letter, that letter should be a capital (south, north but S, W, NE).

Dates and numbers
Numbers from one to ten may be written out as words as long as they are not associated with a unit of measurement. Numbers over ten should be written as numbers, with a period to set off the digit over one thousand is the number is four or more digits (for example, three individuals, 300, 5.750, 10.000). Millions and billions should be written as follows: 50 million, 100 billion.
Decades and centuries should be capitalized (for example, the Eighties, the Nineteenth century) or expressed as roman numerals (e.g. the XVIII century). Dates should appear with the day as a number, the month written out (all lowercase), and the year as a number (e.g. 22 february 1988).

Bibliographic references
Basic bibliographic information should be provided in the form of in-text citations in keeping with these examples: (Lanternari 1967: 142), (Greenwood, Levin 1998: 14), (Agrawal et al. 1981: 87-90)
Book titles referenced in their entirety and the names of journals should appear in italics (e.g. L’etnografo imperfetto or L’Homme) while sections of books or article titles should be set off by angle quotes («Conclusions»).
To cite two or more publications by the same author both with the same publication year, add a letter (a, b, c) in regular text (not bold or italics), directly after the year without leaving a space.
The footnotes should not contain bibliographic references, except for instances of indirect citation of publications accessed through other publications (secondary sources).
For references to interviews and/or field research documents, always include the reference as a footnote according to this formula: Interview with…carried out…on (date).
When citing websites, please provide the latest date accessed, as follows: website, last accessed 04/07/2015).

References Cited
The works cited should be listed in chronological order from oldest to most recent.
If the publication has been translated, cite the Italian edition while identifying the original language edition in parenthesis. For edited volumes, specify (a cura di) for publications in Italian, (ed)/(eds) in English, (hrsg) in German and (dir) in French.
The following examples illustrate the format for citing monographs, essays published in periodicals, and essays contained in edited volumes, and edited volumes themselves.

Single-author monographs
Last name, first initial of the first name. Year. Full title. Place of publication. Publisher
Example:
Douglas, M. 1979 [1970]. I simboli naturali. Sistema cosmologico e struttura sociale. Torino. Einaudi.

Multiple-author monographs
Rabinow, P., Marcus, G. E., Faubion J. D., Rees, T. 2008. Designs for an Anthropology of the Contemporary. Durham. Duke University Press.
When referencing works published in the original language that have also been translated into Italian:
Bourgois, P., Schonberg, J. 2009. Righteous Dopefiend. Oakland. University of California Press. Trad it. 2011. Roma. DeriveApprodi.

Essays in periodicals:
Last name, first initial of the first name. Year. Full title. Name of periodical. Issue number: page.
Example:
Horton, R. 1960. A definition of religion and its uses. Journal of the Royal Anthropological Institute, 90: 201-206.
Please note: authors are asked to follow this model and not include additional notations such as vol., issue, n., etc.

Essays in edited volumes:
Last name, first initial of the first name. Year. Full title in angle quotes («…»), in Title of the book, Last name, first initial of the first name (a cura di). Place of publication. Publisher: page number.
Example:
Geertz, C. 1964. «Ideology as a cultural system», in Ideology and discontent. Apter, D. (ed). New York. Free Press: 52-72.

Edited volumes:
Last name, first initial of the first name of the editor (a cura di). Year. Full title. Place of publication. Publisher.
Example:
Faldini, L., Pili, E. (a cura di). 2012. Claude Lévi-Strauss. Letture e commenti. Roma. Cisu.

Tips for ensuring anonymity
1) Delete your name from the text as Author or Reviewer.
2) Do not refer to yourself and your work in first person.
3) Do not include acknowledgement in the main document, as they can give away your identity, your affiliation etc.
4) Using MS Word, author identification should also be removed from the properties.

Note

Esempio:
(Sito internet consultato in data 04/07/2015).

Bibliografia
I testi vanno citati in ordine cronologico crescente.

Anno. Titolo completo. Luogo di pubblicazione. Editore
Esempio:
Douglas, M. 1979 [1970]. I simboli naturali. Sistema cosmologico e struttura sociale. Torino. Einaudi.

Monografia di più autori:
Rabinow, P., Marcus, G. E., Faubion J. D., Rees, T. 2008. Designs for an Anthropology of the Contemporary. Durham.
Bourgois, P., Schonberg, J. 2009. Righteous Dopefiend. Oakland. University of California Press. Trad it. 2011. Roma. DeriveApprodi.

Saggi in riviste:
Cognome, Iniziale del Nome. Anno.

Saggi in opere collettanee:
Cognome, Iniziale del Nome. Anno. Editore: pagine.
Esempio:
Geertz, C. 1964. «Ideology as a cultural system», in Ideology and discontent. Apter, D. (ed). New York. Free Press: 52-72.

Curatele:
Titolo completo. Luogo di pubblicazione. Editore.
Esempio:
Faldini, L., Pili, E. (a cura di). 2012. Claude Lévi-Strauss. Letture e commenti. Roma. Cisu.

Immagini e grafici:
